Tile guide

Five things to settle before you look at designs. Five minutes.

Size

600 x 1200 mm (2 x 4 ft) is the large format for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms: fewer joints, the room looks bigger. 2 pieces per box, 15.5 sq ft. 600 x 600 mm (2 x 2 ft) matt porcelain and full-body tiles go on terraces, parking and other outdoor or heavy-use floors. 4 pieces per box, 15.5 sq ft. 800 x 1600 mm and 800 x 2400 mm are large slabs for walls, floors and kitchen counters with the fewest joints; send your room size on WhatsApp and we work out the slabs you need.

Finish

Mirror polish (high gloss) reflects the most light, like a mirror. Polished (glossy) is bright but softer. Textured (carving matt) has a surface you can feel and no glare. Natural (matt) does not reflect, hides dust and gives grip, so it goes in wet and outdoor areas. Through-body (full body) tiles are the same colour all the way through. A photo cannot show gloss; see it in the showroom.

Body

PGVT (polished glazed vitrified) is the glossy 600 x 1200 range: a vitrified body with a printed, glazed, polished face. Semi-vitrified is the carving matt 600 x 1200 range. Porcelain is the dense matt 600 x 600 body for floors and terraces. Full body tiles are the same colour all the way through, so a chip does not show; they are for parking and heavy traffic.

Shade and batch

Two boxes from different batches can differ in shade. Drambay dispatches one batch per order and shade-matches before it leaves. Buy the whole room at once, with wastage, so you never need a second batch.

How many boxes

Room area in sq ft ÷ 15.5 = boxes, then add 7% for cutting and wastage, rounded up. A 12 x 15 ft room is 180 sq ft → 12 boxes → 13 boxes with wastage. Every product page has this calculator.
